ENDWELL, N.Y. — The Maine-Endwell community is grieving the heartbreaking loss of 11-year-old Cameron Jones, whose death following a pool incident has prompted an outpouring of support from family, friends, classmates, teammates, and the broader Broome County community.
Cameron, affectionately known to many as “Cam Man,” died on Thursday, July 9, 2026, after an emergency rescue at the Binghamton Country Club pool in the Town of Union. His passing has deeply affected local schools, youth athletic organizations, and everyone who knew the energetic and kind-hearted young athlete.
According to the New York State Police, emergency responders were called to the country club after reports of an unresponsive child in the swimming pool. Before first responders arrived, lifeguards and bystanders removed Cameron from the water and immediately began lifesaving efforts.
State troopers assisted with resuscitation efforts until emergency medical personnel took over. Cameron was transported by ambulance to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City before being airlifted to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse for advanced medical care. Despite the efforts of emergency responders and hospital staff, he later succumbed to his injuries.
Authorities have stated that no foul play is suspected. The New York State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident in coordination with the Medical Examiner’s Office.
Cameron was a student in the Maine-Endwell Central School District and was widely recognized throughout the Southern Tier for his enthusiasm, sportsmanship, and love of athletics. Despite his small stature, coaches and teammates affectionately described him as “tiny but mighty,” a nickname that reflected both his determination and competitive spirit.
He was an active member of the Stingers Baseball travel program, where he played second base and shortstop, and also participated in Maine-Endwell Youth Football and the Johnson City Soccer Association. Coaches praised his work ethic, positive attitude, and willingness to encourage teammates on and off the field.
Just days before the tragic incident, Cameron had helped lead his baseball team to victory with an impressive pitching performance, a moment that teammates and coaches now remember as one of many examples of his passion for the game.
Those who knew Cameron say his greatest qualities extended well beyond athletics. Friends and family remember him as a compassionate, respectful, and thoughtful young boy who enjoyed including others, especially younger children, and who shared a close bond with his sisters. His infectious smile, energy, and caring personality made him a beloved presence wherever he went.

A memorial fundraiser has been established to assist with medical expenses, funeral costs, and other unexpected needs as the family navigates this devastating loss.
